Esther Fernandez

Esther has been a practising Play Therapist for 7 years with additional training in Filial Therapy, Clinical Supervision and Animal-Assisted Play Therapy.  She speaks fluent Spanish & English and can work in both these languages.  She will shortly be able to offer animal-assisted therapy alongside her dog Fresa, in Liberton Brae.

Esther's approach is child centred, including adults surrounding a child by helping them to understand the child's trauma / emotional issues.  She works closely with families, schools & nurseries to support positive change.

Esther's background is in working with children with additional learning needs and disabilities for over 20 years in different roles, including in schools and after school clubs (as manager & director) as well as in the NHS as a nursing assistant in a brain injury unit.

Helen Forrester

When children are distressed it can be difficult to know what is really going on — or what you can do to help. You may feel worried, frustrated or “at sea”, particularly when the things you have tried don’t seem to be making a difference.

I believe that understanding what lies underneath a child’s distress can be the key to finding a way forward. When we can make sense of what a child is communicating through their behaviour, emotions and play - how the world and relationships feel to them - it becomes easier to respond in ways that help them feel safe, understood and supported.

I have been working with children and families since 1991,  qualifying as a Play Therapist in 1997. Over the years, I have added training & experience in Filial Therapy, Child & Parent Relationship Therapy, Clinical Supervision and Child Attachment & Play Assessments.

I work alongside parents, carers and professionals to help them understand the child they are supporting and feel more confident about what they can do to help.

I am a BAPT Registered Play Therapist® and Approved Supervisor®, and a certified reliable coder in Child Attachment & Play Assessments.
